Contracts

All students admitted to the school will be supported by a three-year employment contract, based on the Collective Wage Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD). PhD students receive salary corresponding to 65% of Pay Group 13 of TVöD (maximum level 2). This is currently just above 2700 Euros in gross terms. In addition, there is a special annual bonus paid. Included in this contract is coverage by the public German health insurance system.

Tuition fee

There is no tuition fee for our program. The only fee required is the biannual semester fee at the University of Marburg (UMR), which amounts to approximately 370 Euros. The semester fee includes the so-called Semesterticket, which entitles students to use public transportation (including local train service) free of charge.

Registration at the University of Marburg

The PhD degree (Dr. rer. nat., the German equivalent to an international PhD degree) is awarded by the UMR. Upon your arrival to Marburg, you will need to register as a PhD student at one of the departments of the UMR. The Coordination Office is happy to assist you during this process!
